We stock as much local & seasonal fruit & vegetables as possible

Fruit & Vegetables

Daniel has a long standing relationship with producers in northern Tasmania. He seeks to use as much local, seasonal produce in all the cooking he does.  This approach is followed in all the delicious meals which he creates for the Dan's Kitchen fridge in the store.  Every item which comes in to the store is checked by Dan & Anna to ensure the highest quality fruit & vegetables are available for you.

When in season we have Rocky Cape corn, Riverside figs, Turners Beach strawberries, Thirlstane Gardens lettuces, Yorktown Organics eggplants, carrots & baby beetroots, Spreyton avocados, Bracknell blackberries, Mrs Ellis' corn from Rosevears.  The list goes on ....

Dan has worked with surrounding farms and suppliers for many years now and we are delighted to continue to relationship with Clare & Bruce at Yorktown Organics.  They produce especially delicious herbs and tiny vegetables and we stock an extensive selection.

Have you tried the avocados grown in Spreyton by Dick & Lo Shaw?  They are delicious.  Tasmania's cool climate means the slow ripening produces a flavour and creaminess that outstrips those grown in warmer climates.

Graeme & Kym of Thirlstane Gardens main concept is to supply “living lettuce” to the market so that the freshest possible lettuce is consumed.  This concept is possible because the lettuce is harvested as a whole and stored with the roots in fresh water.  For best storage and shelf life, this lettuce should be stored with the roots left intact and immersed in 5-10mm approximately of clean water and kept cool.  You can't get fresher than that!

Cool Tassie Vegies Season Guide

Tasmanian vegetables taste particularly good because they are grown in a cool climate.  When it's cooler, things grow slower as they experience no heat stress.  No stress while growing results in fuller flavour, more vitamins, a longer shelf life, a longer growing season and vegetables that stay fresher for longer at home.  Add to that idyllic soul conditions, clean water and air and you have vegetables that are simply fabulous.  If you'd like more details about our Tassie vegetables take a look at the Taste is in our Nature website www.tasteisinournature.com.au
